Secret Spot Hot Tubs Rotorua

It was a cool autumn night in Rotorua, and we were deciding what we could do. We were down there for a work trip but had but had nothing planned for the evening, so we phoned up Secret Spot Hot Tubs and they had some vacancies. Located on the edge of Whakarewarewa Forest, when you drive up to Secret Spot at night, the place is lit up with beautiful lighting in purple and blue.

Greeted by the friendly receptionist, she asked us if we wanted a drink to have with your spa. They had a special running of a Sangria, which is made with their secret recipe with a base of Hawkes Bay Syrah, which Karen ordered. Neha ordered Red Wine and I ordered Ginger Beer. They bring the drinks out to the hot tub in a in a harakeke kete bag with special mugs that keeps your drinks cold.

The changing facilities are very clean and they have showers and lockers, so you can safely store your belongings. Exiting the main building, we walk along the boardwalk, over the “swingbridge of death”, past the lighted stone, and then down towards the forest trees. Stretched out in a line, is the cedar hot tubs where you can see the steam rising. All the tubs are connected by a wooden walkway and have very cool names such as Bush Medicine, Moment of Zen and Boilup. We were told ours was Hippy Dip which was number 12 so we only had one neighbour.

There is a black box by the tub so you can put your towels away so when you climb the stairs into the water, you don’t have to worry about water spillage. The tubs are a nice 38-40^oC. We enjoyed our drinks, whilst looking at the stars and view of the forest, and we all felt the stress and tension from the day fade away. There is a very cool call button you can press if you want more beverages in the tub and they will take your order and deliver it to you, so you don’t even have to leave the serenity of the tub.

We were having such a good time, that we didn’t even notice that our 45 minutes were up until the light started to flash. We made our way back to the changing rooms and put on our nice warm bathrobe from the hotel to drive back to the hotel, feeling rested and relaxed.
